Why am I seeing them!

Why am i seeing ants in my home
Ants can find their way into your home for various reasons. They're primarily attracted to food, especially sugary, greasy, and protein-rich items. If food is left uncovered, spills aren't cleaned up, or crumbs are left behind, ants can be drawn into your living spaces. Additionally, ants need water to survive, making damp areas around sinks, leaky pipes, or other moisture-rich spots particularly appealing to them. They also seek out safe, sheltered places to build their nests, and your home provides a stable environment with plenty of hiding spots. Seasonal changes, such as during spring and summer, can make ants more active, causing them to venture indoors in search of food and water. Finally, small cracks, gaps, and openings around windows, doors, and the foundation of your home can serve as entry points for ants. Addressing these factors can help reduce the ant population in your house.
Texas is home to a diverse range of native ant species. Some of the most common native ants include:
- Red Harvester Ants: These ants are reddish to dark brown and are known for gathering seeds and storing them underground. They have square heads and can bite and sting.
- Texas Leaf-cutter Ants: Also known as the Town ant, these ants are rusty-brown and can defoliate entire trees with their large colonies. They cut leaves into pieces and carry them back to their nest to grow fungus, which feeds the colony.
- Eastern Black Carpenter Ants: These large black ants nest in dead wood or rotting trees and are known for their ability to cause structural damage.
- Black Crazy Ants: Also called Longhorn ants due to their extra-long antennae, these small black ants are known for their erratic movements and are beneficial as they eat fleas and imported red fire ants.
- Pyramid Ants: These pale orange to dark brown ants build small pyramid-shaped mounds and help control garden pests.
